Sophomores: 5 Things for Your College Wish List

You’ve started your college research. You’ve visited websites. You’ve done virtual tours and attended webinars. You may have even toured a few campuses. But have you really created a college wish list? Write it down. What are your must-haves? What is negotiable? These things are important.

Here are 5 things to keep in mind when creating your college wish list:

1. Location

Do you want to be close to home or move farther away? You may want to look for a school that is far enough from home to give you a new start, but close enough that you could go home if you wanted to.

2. Class Size

Would you prefer a smaller class size or a larger class size? Some people prefer a smaller class size so they can have a personal connection with their professors and peers.

3. Campus Life

Do you want to be involved in clubs or organizations? If you are involved in clubs or sports in high school and want to continue your involvement, make sure those opportunities are available.

4. City/Community

It is important to think about what city the school is located in. Are there opportunities to get involved in the surrounding area?

5. Service

Do you want to make a difference? College is a great opportunity to reach out to the local community through acts of service.

Don’t compromise on what you want. This will be a big decision, and the more honest you are with yourself, the easier your choice will be.

You might be looking for a place where you can fit in, but your dream school should help students stand out. If you’re looking for a school to help you grow in leadership and experience, Mercer could be the right fit for you.
